Warsaw has risen to 78th place in the Global Financial Centres Index 40, gaining seven positions since the March 2026 edition. Its rating increased by 14 points, from 664 to 678, in the September report published by Z/Yen Group and the China Development Institute.
Warsaw remains third in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia regional table, behind Astana and Cyprus. It is ahead of Tallinn, Istanbul, Prague and Budapest. The improvement in its rating came as the region’s average rating declined by 1.09%.
A benchmark for financial-centre development
GFCI 40 includes 117 centres in its main index. It combines assessments from financial-services professionals with external indicators to evaluate the competitiveness of financial centres.
The result records a further improvement in Warsaw’s position, while leaving a substantial distance to the leading centres. A change in rank reflects both a centre’s own results and changes elsewhere in the index; it does not establish a single cause for the movement.
For Future Finance Poland, the index is one reference point in the wider work of developing Poland’s financial centre. It helps place Warsaw within an international comparison, alongside other evidence on market activity, infrastructure, skills and the business environment.
FFP’s international engagement and cooperation with market participants support the broader effort to strengthen Poland’s financial ecosystem and its connections with other centres.
