FFP report puts effective fraud prevention at the centre of payment security

Future Finance Poland presented “Digital Payment Security. Recommendations for a Secure Ecosystem” in Warsaw on 25 June 2026. Prepared with Mastercard, PKO Bank Polski, KIR and legal and financial-market experts, the report addresses how to strengthen protection against payment fraud.

The publication brings technical, operational and legal questions into one discussion. Strong customer authentication is an important safeguard, but effective protection also requires institutions to identify suspicious activity and respond to the circumstances of a transaction.

From authentication to prevention

In their commentary on the report, contributors from Dudkowiak & Putyra highlight a shift towards assessing whether security controls prevent harm in practice. The priorities they identify include dynamic transaction monitoring, timely warnings before a customer approves a payment, preparation for recipient verification, and oversight of data and models used in fraud prevention.

The report also places payment security within the wider regulatory environment. The EU payments framework, data-protection rules and operational-resilience requirements address different aspects of protecting financial services and their users. DORA, which has applied since 17 January 2025, establishes requirements for the digital operational resilience of financial entities.

For FFP, the report provides a basis for dialogue between financial institutions, technology providers and public authorities about more effective protection of payment users. The full Polish-language publication is available on the FFP website.
